His mother may have been the boss, but she had stepped back and kept to the background. Vinny was the one in charge, he was the one that people went to, but he was not officially the boss. His mother still had that position and she was the one who made the final decision. If she didn't like a decision he made, she could override it. It was a little annoying to know that despite him being thirty-five years old, his mother still interferred with everything. Tonight, his mother decided to look over the books from the past eight months. It was as if she didn't trust his work.
Vinny brought out the plate of pasta that she ordered from the cook. It was a good thing it was a bit slow. He told her to go to the back office, but she insisted on doing this out here, probably to keep a better eye on him. "Your alfredo, mother," he said as he placed the plate down in an open spot. He stood back and watched her for a few minutes. "Is everything adding up so far?"

Dressed in her black shorts white shirt, her apron tied securely around her waist Maribella Gallo took her last table's order out to them. Mari had been here all day, seeing as it was her day to work. In the family, everyone worked at the restaurant at least once a week, she picked up shifts when she had nothing to do or wasn't busy with a job. Not one person inside of her family or otherwise, knew about what she did. Which was fine with her, as she knew her siblings would write off acting and modeling as things for those stick figures to be doing. Mirabella was a healthy girl, she had meat on her because she, unlike those girl who spend most of their time bent over a toilet with their finger down their throat, actually worked out pretty regularly. She ate "correctly," as in not too many large portions of anything. She figured sometimes it annoyed her mother when she came for dinner and didn't chow down like the rest.
Looking at the clock, she decided to take her break; it was a slow day anyways. She heard some whispering about her mother being here and figured that she might as well go see her. After placing her lunch order with the cook, which was the wonderful thing about being not only a gallo, but working here in general, she headed over to the booth she saw Vinny walking towards. When she got there, she smiled a little; no wonder Vins had been so agitated this morning. It was books day....and knowing their mother, she was here to make sure that everything added it. Poor Vinny, even though he was destined to take over, in more than one way, Mama still looked over his shoulder and meddled. Though she knew she only did it to make sure things were done correctly, and because she loved them, she figured that Vincent, being the oldest, would be just a little fed up with all of it. "Bonjourno," she said bending over a bit to kiss her mothers cheek, and then moved over to do the same for Vinny, even though she had been around him all day. "I'm on my lunch break. Do you want anything?" she asked the both of them while she leaned against the booth Tag: Carina & Vincent Count: 395

she said with a smile as she put her pencil down. ”Thank you.” She pushed her books aside and brought the plate over towards her. ”Everything’s adding up so far. Why don’t you have a seat, son? Tell me about the kids. How are my grandchildren?” Carina knew that it annoyed Vinny to have her always around keeping an eye on him. But, as long as she was still alive, she was his mother and he was her son. And, as a mother, Carina would always love and look out for Vinny. It didn’t matter how old he was or if he already had teenaged children of his own. Then, another one of Carina’s children came over to the table. ” Bonjourno, baby,” she greeted her youngest daughter. ”Isn’t this lovely? Now we just need your other brother and sister and we can have a nice family dinner. Oh, Mari, could you give me some more peach ice tea. Thank you.” Mari was the youngest, her baby, and therefore, Carina felt the need to protect her the most. Unfortunately, this also meant that she had to protect Mari from a lot of what the family does. With Mari away for a few seconds, she knew she couldn’t talk business with Vinny now. They would have to just wait. ”We need to talk, but we can’t do it in front of your sister,” she said. ”Why don’t you come by the house tomorrow? Bring the kids, please? I know your father would love to see them, too. Then, we can talk in my office. I want to talk about that piece of property YOU failed to get.” Then, she began to eat her dinner as if it was a sign that it was the end of their conversation on that matter. count; 314 [/ul][/blockquote]

he said flatly. He knew exactly what she was doing. She thought that if she could play nice and pretend to be the caring grandmother she wanted everyone to believe she was he would let his guard down. But, Vinny knew better. He grew up with his mother's lies and manipulations. He knew what his mother was capable of. When he was a teenager, he found out what his mother did and how they could afford all the nice things. Vinny always thought it was from some inheritence his mother had. He was half true. "Look, mother, I -" he began to talk before his sister came over. Vinny quickly stopped talking. Then, he greeted his sister as well. "No, I"m good," he said putting a hand up. "Thanks." Vinny watched his youngest sister walk away. The moment Mari was away, his mother started on him. He turned and carefully listened to her. Of course they wouldn't be able to talk here. His sister might come back, and this place isn't exactly secure. Who knew who might be here and overhear things. "Then, it'll have to be after Ian's baseball game," he said. "I promise I would go. I haven't gone all season. If you want, you and dad can come, too. Then, we'll go to your house afterwards."As much as Vinny was annoyed with his mother, she was still his mother. Family was the most important thing to him. It was the one value his parents instilled in him. "Me," he asked surprised. "Mom, I couldn't help it if I got overbid by someone. I don't even know who it was. I tried to ask the agent, but she kept it a secret. You know, there are just some things that are out of my control, mother." Everything was his fault. He hated being blame for things all the time.
